EXCHANGE OLD NEXT PRINTERS FOR NEW:The Printer Works Announces a Program to
Replace Aging NeXT Printers
Hayward, CA -- August 12, 1994 -- The Printer Works today announced
an unusual program for owners of NeXT laser printers. In a move
likely to please users of NeXT's original black hardware, the
Hayward, California printer specialist has offered to exchange a
new, factory-original NeXT laser printer for any used NeXT laser
printer for an exchange fee of $295. (The offer is limited to The
Printer Works existing inventory of 1000 units.)
"At many NeXT sites, the printer is 'first-to-fail' equipment,
especially if users make heavy use of printing," said Stephen
Roberts, president of The Printer Works. "Printers are machines
with parts of rubber and plastic. They get tired and wear out. We're
offering NeXT users an opportunity to replace any aging or broken
NeXT laser printer with a brand-new, factory-boxed NeXT laser
printer -- effectively doubling the life of a worn-out printer for
less than the cost of an annual maintenance contract."
The Printer Works has specialized in repair depot service of
printers for computers since 1982. The company runs one of the
largest printer-only repair facilities in North America,
serving as "the repairmen's repairman" to computer service
companies and corporate repair centers throughout the U.S. and
Canada. The company is a Canon authorized service facility (ASF)
and a Canon OEM. The Printer Works is committed to supporting the
NEXTSTEP user community for the long term. The Printer Works
manufactures two new 600-dpi laser printers exclusively for
NEXTSTEP users, called the StepWriter-BX and StepWriter-NX.
The Printer Works will accept any NeXT laser printer, working or
not, for the exchange program. The company asks that interested
NEXTSTEP users phone, fax, or email requesting an "advance
exchange." The Printer Works will ship a brand-new,
factory-boxed NeXT laser printer on receipt of a credit card
order, check, or purchase order. After receiving the new printer,
customers should retain their toner cartridge, but return the old
printer, paper tray, and printer cable in the new printer's
shipping carton. Users pay shipping both ways. A ninety-day
warranty guarantees that The Printer Works will replace the new
printer should it fail within ninety days of receipt.
"It's a brilliant offer," commented Daniel Miles Kehoe, former
contributing editor for NeXTWORLD magazine and a consultant to
The Printer Works. "NeXT users get new printers, and if people are
pleased, The Printer Works wins loyal customers."
